LETTER: Election disappointment
HAVING been involved in the recent Federal Election as a volunteer, one has to voice ones disappointment in the way the AEC conducted the voting process.
I am aware that the planning would have been done on previous experiences however there was definitely no consideration given to the elderly citizens of our community and the viable businesses who are client-based.
Voting venues for pre-polling and on voting day were a complete debacle.
Citizens without transport had no central venues to vote and had the expense of taxis to suburban voting venues.
Elderly and disabled citizens has to walk long distances for medical appointments.
AEC made very little consideration for parking facilities where daily business operations were conducted.
Venues had no facilities for disabled voters.
Elderly voters had to stand in queues for more than 30 minutes.
AEC staff were also disappointed with the lack of co-operation from the AEC.
I hope that the AEC will take notice of the adverse publicity they created at this election and hopefully next voting day, plans will be more acceptable.
