LETTER: 'Aussies obsessed with American culture'

AUSTRALIANS' infatuation with everything American is just one more indication of a people without a national identity.

Our singers sing with North American accents.

We attempt to create "the new Justin Bieber" or whoever.

We copy jargon, handshakes, clothing and hairstyles.

We spend millions of dollars impressing and competing against them.

We shout to the world when the AUD surpasses the USD.

We hide when it is lower.

We greet American singers and actors with "welcome home".

Do you think Australians are acting 'too American'?

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

We ask them what they think of Australia and Australians.

We claim things as Australian which are not.

We brag at every opportunity.

We blindly follow the Americans into every conflict.

We celebrate Halloween.

Our accents are slowly starting to sound American.

We measure success in dollars and then we claim we are uniquely Australian.

We are simply a lost nation with the "convicts' noose" around our throats, in a pathetic struggle to find our "glass slipper".

To the ever shrinking true blue Aussies, I salute you.

You are the reason I called Australia home.
