Lawyer's illness sees Justine Jones case adjourned

THE trial of a man who allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend and put her body in a garbage bin has been set back.

Richard Peter Coburn, 29, has been on trial in the Supreme Court this week after pleading not guilty to murdering Justine Jones.

Twenty-two-year-old Ms Jones was last seen alive on July 7, 2010, at her Alexandra Headland unit.

Police discovered her body had been dumped in a rubbish bin.

Coburn's trial started on Tuesday but Supreme Court Justice Margaret Wilson discharged the jury on Friday.

She said defence barrister Jeff Hunter was unwell and wouldn't be able to pick up the trial by Christmas.

"This is unfortunate for everyone including Mr Hunter that this happened," Justice Wilson told the jury.

The case was adjourned to December 14 when a trial date next year is expected to be set.
