Ladies Classic begins

MORE than 200 players from Bargara and across the country have nominated to play in the 31st Bargara Ladies Classic teeing off today at Bargara Golf Club.

The renowned three-day tournament sponsored by Bundaberg Motor Group and Bundaberg Prestige will feature 238 golfers eyeing off the top prize.

The capacity field includes last year's winner Cheryl Sternberg who returns from Laidley to defend her title at the 54-hole competition.

2013 winner Trudi Petrie from Rockhampton, who was unable to attend last year, returns for the 2015 event.

Eight single-figure handicap markers are competing.

The lowest markers are Trudi on 1, Ash McCourt (Nudgee) 4, Tam Reid (Peregian Springs) 6, Cheryl Sternberg (Laidley), Natalie Turnbull (Redcliffe), Gia Stolz (Caloundra) 7, Michelle Marsden (Bargara) 8 and Sharon Stevens (Peregian Springs and Sue Nouwens (Capricorn Int) on 9.

A Bargara Golf Club spokeswoman said the course was in excellent condition despite the lack of recent rain. Play will start from 6.30am each day with the course closed for social play until after 3pm.
