Labour would be baby bonus for the Giants

WITH Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury facing an anxious wait for the birth of his first child, GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron could be one of the first to send him a congratulatory card.

Pendlebury has stated he will fly back to Melbourne to be with his wife - mid-game if he has to.

"It'd be great if she went into labour," Cameron laughed. "Because it's one elite midfielder we don't have to worry about.

"It's probably rated the best midfield in the competition ... they've got a lot of elite mids," the GWS coach said.

"(Brodie) Grundy is probably the premier ruckman in the competition.

"They could be sitting here at 5-2. They beat Geelong two weeks ago. They gave them a touch-up and they gave us a touch-up last year."

The Giants, looking to bounce back from a dismal showing against St Kilda, already won't have to worry about another star Pie in Adam Treloar, who's out with an ankle injury for Saturday's clash.

The Giants, meanwhile, will welcome back Lachie Whitfield from his six-month ban for evading drug testers.

"He's a terrific kid who has made a mistake," Cameron said.

"Saturday, it's a new start for his footy career and he's going to provide a lot of highlights for us over the next 10 years."

Cameron expected Whitfield to run out the game despite limited preparation.

"I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a little concern. Because regardless of how good you can run, you very rarely can emulate an AFL game," Cameron said.

"But in saying that, what tipped it over the edge is Lachie's ability to cover the ground, repeat efforts and stay in the contest.

"He's trained really well, which is great, and we're probably crying out for another winger."
