Labor's Operation Sovereign Borders questions unanswered

LABOR continued its attack on secrecy over the Coalition's asylum seeker policies, but got little from the tight-lipped Immigration Minister during Question Time today.

A raft of questions asked by Labor frontbenchers about the status and success of the government's Operation Sovereign Borders remained unanswered.

Mr Morrison repeatedly said he would not comment on "operational matters" and issues "on water" regarding boat arrivals.

But he did rebuff an appeal by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten for more details, saying Labor was asking him to "undermine" the public servants now leading the border taskforce.

Mr Shorten also asked Mr Morrison for a preview of his scheduled media brief on the issue tomorrow.

But the Minister said he had "no information" in his folder during Question Time that could shed any light on the briefing.

Earlier, Mackay got a run in Question Time, with Dawson MP George Christensen asking a Dixer of Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss about the impacts of the carbon tax on the regional council.

Mr Truss said "even a trip to the dump costs more" under the tax, before former Leader of the House Anthony Albanese got to his feet.

Mr Albanese asked Mr Truss if he wanted to help the council, why had he withdrawn infrastructure funds.

While Mr Truss did not directly answer the question, he said the voters had "voted for our commitments".
