Kim K wants sex slave killer freed

KIM Kardashian, Rihanna and Cara Delevigne are among the high profile celebrities calling for the release of Cyntoia Brown, an American woman who was sentenced to life in prison for killing a man who trafficked her as a sex worker when she just 16.

Cyntoia Brown was sex-trafficked by a pimp named "Cutthroat" who was physically, sexually and verbally abusive and eventually sold her to 43-year-old Nashville real estate agent Johnny Allen, a court heard during her trial in 2004.

Brown, who feared that former soldier planned to kill her, eventually grabbed one of Allen's guns and killed him, Fox 17 reports.

But when the case came to court, she was sentenced to life in prison.

The case is getting new attention after a tweet showing Brown in court and detailing her case with the hashtag #FreeCyntoiaBrown went viral earlier this week.

Now celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, are using their fame to call for justice for Brown.

Kardashian has even called in her own legal team see if anything can be done for the 29-year-old.

"The system has failed. It's heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what's right. I've called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this. #FreeCyntoiaBrown," Kardashian tweeted.

Kardashian and Rihanna both shared the same statement on social media, which read: "Imagine at the age of 16 being sex-trafficked by a pimp named 'cutthroat.' After days of being repeatedly drugged and raped by different men, you were purchased by a 43-year-old child predator who took you to his home to use you for sex. You end up finding enough courage to fight back and shoot and kill him."

British supermodel Cara Delevingne also took to Instagram, posting: "The justice system is so backwards!!! This is completely insane #freecyntoiabrown."

Rihanna said something had gone "horribly wrong" for a sex trafficked, 16-year-old girl to be jailed for life for shooting her abuser.

"We somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way??" she wrote in an Instagram post, "Cause ... Something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life!

"To each of you responsible for this child's sentence I hope to God you don't have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already!"

Rapper Snoop Dogg also took to Instagram to compare Brown to US convicted rapist Brock Turner who was freed after just six months.

During her trial, it was revealed Brown had run away from home and was forced into prostitution by "Cutthroat".

She testified that she was repeatedly physically and emotionally abused.

Before she was sold to Allen, she'd repeatedly been raped and given drugs, which she said made her paranoid.

At her trial, the jury rejected her claim of self-defence and found her guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder and especially aggravated robbery.

The trial court merged the murder convictions and sentenced Brown to life in prison at Tennessee Prison for Women. She would only be eligible for parole after serving 51 years, when she is 67 years old.

In jail, Brown has completed a university degree and wants to help other inmates.

She also works as an unpaid consultant for the Juvenile Justice system.

"I myself can create opportunities to help people [in jail]," Brown said.
