Khawaja, Burns to push for a spot in the Test squad

Queenslanders Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns will get the chance to stake their claims for a spot in the Test squad to face New Zealand next month in a two-day warm-up in Canberra this weekend.

Khawaja will captain the side that will play a two-day game against the tourists following on from Friday's day-night pink-ball clash involving the Prime Minister's XI and the Kiwis.

Shaun and Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Bancroft, Adam Voges and Peter Siddle will also be vying for places.

"Similar to the Prime Minister's XI squad, this two-day match will provide an opportunity for us to monitor a group of highly rated players ahead of the first Test at the Gabba," national selector Rod Marsh said.

"Shaun, Mitch and Sam are all very talented players and we're keen to see what they can produce against New Zealand."

Young Bull Billy Stanlake is also in the side for the two-day game.
