Binary blitz for birthday boy
KENNETH Thompson is hoping his birthday this weekend will score a perfect 10 — and it would be hard not to, given that he will be celebrating his first decade on the 10th day of the 10th month in 2010.
“I think it's going to be the best birthday ever because my favourite number is 10,” Kenneth said.
“It would be nice to get 10 presents.”
The junior bookworm will be keeping all 10 fingers crossed that one of his presents is a Beast Quest book by Adam Blade.
As well as being his birth date and favourite digits, the number 10 is also Kenneth's jersey number when he plays soccer with the Diggers U-10 team.
His mum, Katrina Thompson, said while there would be a birthday party at the Diggers soccer clubhouse, the family would not be celebrating tenfold.
“All his classmates are coming, so it will be fun — but it's just a normal party,” Mrs Thompson said.
She said Kenneth, her second child, was due on October 3, 2000, but arrived a full week late.
“It made it really easy for him to remember his birthday and how old he was, because he can just count up from 2000,” Mrs Thompson said.
And with six kids in the family, she said it was one birthday she would never be confused about.
“No one ever forgets it,” she said.
“We're lucky to have one birthday with such an easy date.”
However, Mrs Thompson said she was not superstitious about the date.
“I think it's nice, but there's not really any special meaning behind it,” she said.
