Kane out to show Blues he’s able

NEW West Coast Eagle Kane Lucas will have the chance to show Carlton made a mistake by axing him at the end of last season when the teams clash in tonight's NAB Challenge match in Mandurah.

Lucas, pick No.12 in the 2009 national draft, played 42 games for the Blues over five seasons, including seven last year.

He said he was disappointed coach Mick Malthouse didn't speak to him before the de-listing, and won't have the chance tonight either because the Blues mentor has stayed in Melbourne where his wife is having investigative surgery.

Assistant coach Rob Wiley will instead take charge, with defender Sam Rowe acting captain in the absence of Marc Murphy (calf).

The Blues will also be without Andrew Walker (knee) and Matthew Kreuzer (foot), while several experienced players - Bryce Gibbs, Lachie Henderson, Chris Judd, Dale Thomas and Michael Jamison - have all been rested.

Draftees Blaine Boekhorst, Dillon Viojo-Rainbow and Clem Smith have been named in the 29-man squad, which includes recruits Jason Tutt, Kristian Jaksch, Matthew Dick and Liam Jones.

West Coast has included most of its stars, with Scott Selwood (ankle) and Nic Naitanui being the notable omissions. Both players also missed the team's hit-out against the Indigenous All Stars last Friday night.

Last year's draftees Tom Lamb and Jackson Nelson have been named in the Eagles squad.
