Kalkie team making a racquet

TENNIS: Kalkie will represent Wide Bay in the inaugural Brisbane International Primary Schools Challenge at the Queensland Tennis Centre in January after winning the regional leg of the competition.

Kalkie PE teacher Sharon Smith said only two other schools entered the regional shootout at Drinan Park, St Luke's Anglican School and Mundubbera.

Kalkie was represented by Queensland Junior Masters champion Brendon Schultz, Riley de Git, Zac Fleming and Simon Rathbone and they advanced by beating St Luke's 10-8.

"They played singles and doubles and their parents supported them on the day, and they won a tough battle," Smith said.

"They will now play the other regions from January 5-8 in conjunction with the Brisbane International and they will be able to rub shoulders with some top players and hopefully get some tickets to watch the stars in action as well.

"They are all good players but I have gone to Murray Whitbread for further coaching leading up to it."
