A MEMORIAL fund to pay tribute to slain Sunshine Coast woman Justine Jones is officially open.

Jackie Jones, the older sister of the young woman who went missing almost a fortnight ago, opened the account at the Maroochydore Suncorp Bank yesterday after the Daily was inundated with offers of financial help and assistance from Coast residents.

All money donated will go directly to the family.

Anyone who wishes to help the family directly can donate to the account below

Donations can be made at any Suncorp branch on the Sunshine Coast. The account will remain open until the close of business on Monday, August 2

Justine’s mother, Kathleen, who has braved the many questions and cameras since her daughter’s disappearance, said messages of love and support had been the single light in the tragedy that had darkened their lives.

“I wish Justine was here to see the compassion that she has helped bring together,” Ms Jones said from her home in Narooma in New South Wales.

Ms Jones said the family had planned a funeral service for Justine at Narooma next Tuesday.

She said she and partner of 26 years, Michael, Jackie and Justine’s father, had been living on a pension for the past four months and were struggling to cope financially.

Michael, an oyster farmer, has been on Workcover.

Ms Jones said she believed money available to them from Victim Assist Queensland would cover the cost of Justine’s casket.

She said she hoped to attend this Saturday’s memorial service at Alexandra Headland put together by her daughter’s many friends and strangers she is yet to meet.

Memorial organiser Kylie Garland, 22, is the same age as Justine was.

The young mum said she wanted to bring people together to say a fitting farewell to the girl with the chocolate brown hair.

“I only met her about three times, but I felt there had to be something we could do to support the family left behind,” she said.

The memorial will begin at noon when flowers will be laid at Justine’s Silver Sands apartment and people can then join a commemorative walk to The Bluff at Alexandra Headland, where chocolate brown balloons will be released.
