WHEN Bundaberg country music singer Justin Standley was asked to write and submit a song for the Song 4 Alana competition, he already knew the plight of the little girl who needed life-changing surgery in America to give her the gift of hearing.

As if their paths were meant to cross, the NewsMail ran the very first story about Mr Standley's X-Factor journey on August 15, the same edition that introduced Alana Reid to the people of Bundaberg.

"I read that edition of the NewsMail because my story was in it," Mr Standley said.

"When I was asked to write a song, I already knew about Alana because I had read her story as well.

"When I sat down to write my song I thought about that article and the words inspired my song."

Visiting family in Bundaberg for the first time since he auditioned for X-Factor, Mr Standley today recorded his song, Alana, You're an Angel in My Eyes, to accompany the other top seven songs on a special CD. Sales will go to the Hear 4 Alana charity.

Catch Mr Standley live in concert at Hinkler Central shopping centre on Sunday as all eight finalists perform from 11.30am.
