Just the ticket to end polio
WHY not spend an evening with Tom Hanks and help fight polio at the same time?
Tomorrow night Rotary clubs from around Bundaberg will join forces with a movie night showing a Bridge of Spies starring Hanks.
Rotary Clubs Bundaberg Sunrise president Chris Parker said all the money raised on the night would go directly towards eradicating polio.
"We are so close to eradicating it worldwide," Mr Parker said.
"Nigeria and Somalia haven't had any reported cases since July and August last year.
"And there has only been 51 cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan so we are so close."
Rotary Foundation club representative Wayne Turrell said for as little as 60c, a child can be protected against this crippling disease for life.
"Every person through the door on the evening will be contributing to the fight against polio," he said.
"However, more importantly, every dollar earned will be double matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which means that for every dollar raised there will be three dollars contributed to the fight against polio.
There will pre-movie nibbles which are included in the ticket price and tickets can be bought on the door.
