Jumping for joy at new gym

FINALLY the 420 gymnasts at Coral Isles Gymnastics can get a full run-up at the vault without having to pull up the roller door.

The huge new complex, still in its final stages of completion, is three times the size of the previous space at PCYC and the kids are jumping for joy at the improvement.

Aiden Frick was one of the first gymnasts to try out the new venue.

He did not say much, but the huge smile on his face while he bounded on the trampoline got the point across.

Coach Matt Woods was also thrilled with the change of scenery.

“It makes such a difference; there is so much more room to move. But we still have a lot to sort out before we are fully moved in,” he said.

The level five gymnast is one of a healthy crew of coaches at the club, but head coach Jenelle Duff said more would be recruited to cater for the huge numbers.

“We are getting coaches in from the Sunshine Coast this year, plus a few old ones coming back,” she said.

“We finished the year with around 420 and it should grow again this year.

“We still need more room, I think,” Duff joked.

Along with the huge junior numbers, the club is also trying to revive adult gymnastics this year.

They will hold a sign-on tomorrow at the new gym at 2a Lester Street, near Bundy Bowl and Leisure, between 10am and 2pm.
