Joking White serious about Wallabies debut

THE first thing new Wallabies halfback Nic White brought up with Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin yesterday was his Queanbeyan Whites team winning the 2010 ACT premiership - and the beers that followed.

While Haddin, who attended that game and has family in that town, joked he didn't remember much of the night following the beverages that were consumed, it remains a fond memory for White (pictured).

It was his time at the Queanbeyan club that elevated him into the Brumbies team, alongside fellow Whites teammate Robbie Coleman.

White is now a Wallaby, preparing to line up against France at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

While Haddin and White, both known as larrikins, traded laughs about that night at a joint-Wallabies and Australian cricket media opportunity in Brisbane yesterday, White quickly scotched suggestions of playing any practical jokes on his new teammates.

"No, no. I'm pretty new to this system up here at the Wallabies, so I'm playing everything by the rules," White told APN.

"There are some big boys getting around - I don't know who I can play jokes on."

White credited Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham for his rapid rise to a Wallaby gold jersey, keeping out the 55-Test Reds halfback Will Genia.

"Since I first met him (Larkham) in 2011 he's really taken my game to a new level each year," White said.

"Every time I think 'I can't learn anything more off this bloke', he's got more and more insight.
