NORTH Isis resident Jim Nilon is the third and latest to throw his hat in the ring for Division 2.

Mr Nilon and his wife Belinda live on their North Isis property where they grow bamboo, garlic and other plants.

Mr Nilon said his decision to run was largely influenced by the dispute about the location of a Men's Shed in Childers.

"I was perplexed and more than a tad disappointed that Bundaberg Regional Council is oblivious to the importance for a rural district to be able to offer agricultural studies," he said. "For over a decade, students have travelled from all over the Isis district to access one of the few OP-level agricultural courses in the state."

Mr Nilon said he believed this issue was an indicator of poor representation for the Isis district at the council chambers in Bundaberg.

"Childers and the Isis district community will get over this particular decision. It has made it clear however, that the regional council based in Bundaberg is either unable or unwilling to acknowledge what makes communities like the Isis district tick," he said.

These local government elections are an opportunity to debate ideas about our region's future, according to Mr Nilon.
