QUEENSLAND theatre goers are in for a treat when Jersey Boys comes to Brisbane in July.

The award-winning musical based on the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons makes its long-awaited debut at QPAC on July 13.

Currently playing Auckland's historic Civic Theatre, the musical celebrated its 1000th Australasian show last month.
QPAC is releasing more tickets for the show's five-week Brisbane run on Monday May 14 at 9am through its website.

More than a million people saw the show during its Melbourne and Sydney seasons, but opening night in Auckland was the first time I got to see the show.

The beautifully ornate surrounds of the Civic Theatre were the perfect setting for this journey back in time to the unbelievably true story of The Four Seasons.

Because it is based on real-life events, the show has a great flow where every song fits perfectly into the storyline.

Audience members may have grown up listening many of the songs, but it's the stories of how and why those songs were written that make Jersey Boys so much more than just a greatest hits mash-up.

Much of this is thanks to the contributions of Four Seasons songwriter Bob Gaudio, who is the show's composer.

The night I see the show, Dion Bilios is playing the lead role of Frankie Valli, which he shares with Ten Tenor Graham Foote.

Bilios is superb as Valli. Not only does he nail Valli's trademark falsetto, but he manages to portray the wide range of Valli's life from his naïve teenage years to the height of his recording career and the heartbreaking death of his daughter Francine.

It comes as no surprise, to me at least, that the show has broken box office records in New Zealand.

Jersey Boys opens at QPAC's Lyric Theatre on July 13.
