Isis complete clean sweep and win division 2 title

CRICKET: Isis say a move to division 1 isn't on the horizon despite dominating division 2 cricket this season.

The side completed the perfect season, beating The Waves by five wickets to claim the premiership.

Isis now have all division 2 trophies in their cabinet after winning the NewsMail Cup and the T20 title earlier this season.

But they were made to work hard for the premiership on Sunday.

The side, chasing 98 for victory, fell to 5/56 in the run chase before Adrian Goddard (26*) and Adam McCoombe (36*) guided the side to the win.

"It wasn't comfortable,” Isis club president and player Roderick Jensen said.

"They took a couple of good catches and then we were five for 50-odd.

"We were then thinking, 'geez, is this going to happen?'”

The win was Isis' first premiership in the division and third final win in a row.

Jensen said it made up for the previous couple of years where the side struggled to get a grand final win.

"It was a real team effort,” he said.

"When we won the T20 final we set a goal that it would be good to finish with a premiership win.”

Jensen said the side would now build towards another year in division 2, ruling out the move to the top.

"Our squad's average age is in the mid-40s,” he said.

"It's a transition too difficult for us.

"We'll just try to keep the bulk of our players for next season as a few are retiring.”
