Ipswich man's $701,000 mortgage-killing win

DON'T say it could never happen to you - the extremely lucky winner of this week's first division Golden Casket prize hails from Ipswich.

The winner, who purchased the ticket from Redbank News, will collect a prize of more than $701,000, which he says he'll use to cancel out the mortgage.

The man, whose name has been kept private, said he had trouble believing he had all six winning Gold Lotto numbers on his ticket when he checked it after the draw on Saturday night.

"When I realised I had all the winning numbers, I thought hang on this can't be right," he said.

"I raced in to the bedroom and handed my ticket to my wife and said, 'Can you look at this?' and she took one look at it and replied, 'No - that's not real'.

"I didn't let myself get too excited because I thought I'll wait until I hear from Golden Casket although we did tell our family on Sunday.

"This first division win has changed everything for us.

"While we'll continue to work, it means we'll now be mortgage free." .

Redbank News owner Peter Clymo said he was excited to be celebrating a division one win at his outlet.

"This is absolutely fantastic news," Mr Clymo said.

"This is our first individual division one win although we have sold a division one winning syndicate ticket.

"We have really fantastic customers so I'd love to see another one celebrating a big win."

Throughout Australia, there were six entries that won a first division prize of $701,962.71 in the weekend's estimated $4 million Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

Along with the winning entry from Redbank, there were two division one winning ticket sold in Victoria, one was from the Northern Territory, and two were purchased in Western Australia.
