Internet not a threat for fashion

ONLINE fashion is no threat to quality clothes stores according to one Lismore boutique owner.

Sharon Kaehler, from the popular Boutique 2000 in Lismore has just entered the online market with her own website and, while business is brisk, she ultimately considers the phenomenon just a passing fad.

And Ms Kaehler has the credibility to make such claims - several of her clients have taken out local race day fashion stakes including the recent Bangalow Cup's Fashion in the Field.

"While we are getting a great response from the site (www.bou tique2000.com.au), at the end of the day women like to touch, feel and try on the product rather than trying to shop online," she said.

"Fashion is a very individual thing, everything might look fine on a model but when it comes down to a woman's own personal body shape and what suits her it can be a totally different thing.

"I'm hearing from wholesalers and people in the industry that it's going to be short-lived as far as online fashion is concerned"

Ms Kaehler offers the "whole package" for would-be-fashionistas from head to toe and says the combinations are as important as the components.

"We can put it all together for them - the hats, fascinators, shoes, bag, jewellery, the outfit - it takes the worry off a woman," she said.

"We also offer personalised styling for women in store, and personalised wardrobe consultation in their own homes where we figure out what works for them, what doesn't, what they should keep and what they should throw out.

"When it comes to fashion you're much better off with personalised service - there are the colours, styles, fabrics, length and cut to consider, and different occasions have different dress codes - from smart casual through to formal we can help guide women as to what they need to be wearing for each particular function.

"We're gearing up for school formals now - even with the young ones who are computer savvy there's still a strong element of girls who much prefer to buy off the rack and to be able to try the dress on and make sure it works for them (and) all comes together with the shoes, accessories and the jewellery."
