Injured keeper hands new man chance

FORMER England under-20 goalkeeper Jamie Young looks set to make his Brisbane Roar debut in tonight's FFA Cup last 16 clash against Adelaide United after No.1 keeper Michael Theo (pictured) was injured in training.

Theo was not on the plane to Adelaide yesterday after damaging his wrist in the final training session.

A Roar official told http://www.theffacup.com.au the injury was not believed to be serious, although the experienced shot-stopper was still to be fully assessed.

Young, 29, who was born in Brisbane, made four appearances for the England under-20 team in 2005 before making one start for Reading. He then played 163 times for Wycombe Wanderers and Aldershot Town in the lower echelons of the Football League in England, and was signed recently from Hayes and Yeading United, where he played 10 times last season in the sixth tier of English football.

He will make his first competitive Roar start against the Reds at Coopers Stadium, while Brisbane is also trying to register goalkeeper coach Jason Kearton as a squad player and back-up gloveman for the clash in Adelaide.

Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold will lead his team against Sydney United 58, mentored by former Sky Blues skipper Mark Rudan.

"We know it won't be easy and they'll be up for the game," Arnold said.

In other last 16 games tonight, the Gold Coast-based Palm Beach Sharks entertain South Springvale, and Perth Glory will travel to Melbourne to take on the St Albans Saints.
