Injured climber flown off mountain after 5-hour rescue
A RESCUE effort lasting five hours has ended with a man in hospital after he was injured while climbing Mt Tibrogargan.
Emergency crews were first called to the scene about 1.50pm yesterday after a male climber suffered a shoulder injury while scaling the mountain.
Two rescue helicopters were called to the scene, one equipped to winch the patient off the mountain and another equipped to transport him to hospital.
After the latter helicopter was unable to find a space to land safely, the first helicopter was tasked to take the man to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
He was transported in a stable condition about 6.50pm.
It was the second weekend in a row emergency crews were called to rescue a Mt Tibrogargan climber, after a couple became stuck the previous Saturday and finally made it down the mountain more than 24 hours later.
