FEDERAL treasurer Chris Bowen says seeing a bit of emotion from the wife of Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper "is not such a bad thing".

Mr Bowen said wives and spouses in politics put up with a lot and every so often they'll want to speak out.

"At the end of the day we're all human beings with human feelings in politics," he told Seven's Sunrise on Friday morning.

"Seeing a bit of human emotion on display is not such a bad thing."

Inge Slipper spoke out in defence of her husband on Thursday when he announced he would stand in the seat of Fisher in the September 7 election.

"I am standing by my husband and I do love my husband,'' Mrs Slipper said.

Mr Bowen said Mr Slipper was entitled to put his case forward.

"No body should take any seat for granted. We've got a good candidate in that seat. Everyone's entitled to run."

Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey said the LNP wanted nothing to do with Peter Slipper.

"... but he's entitled to run and the people will make their call."
