IGA Bargara set to close
WORKERS at Cast's IGA Bargara received the news yesterday they were hoping never to hear - they would be out of jobs in just over a week.
At a meeting yesterday, workers were informed the shop would close, and they would lose their jobs as of June 30.
An IGA staff member who spoke to the NewsMail after the 10.30am meeting said permanent staff were given redundancies, while casual staff would be laid off, affecting about 25 people.
"We now have a week to say goodbye to our customers," they said.
Former owner Kevin Cast handed over Cast's Supa IGA in Bargara to liquidators Worrells Solvency and Forensic Accountants on November 20 last year after falling millions of dollars in debt.
Liquidators told the NewsMail last year the store was backed by Metcash, with the plan to keep the business open until new owners were found.
Despite the closure, the NewsMail believes liquidators this week have found an interested buyer in the store.
Worrells Solvency and Forensic Accountants didn't return the NewsMail's calls yesterday.
