Huh? Embarrassing mix up for LNP with just days left in election
DAWSON federal member George Christensen has responded to the letter mix up by the LNP.
"I appreciate that Malcolm Turnbull wants me to fight for all of Central Queensland, but I think Ken O'Dowd is doing a good job in Flynn, so I'm going to stick to fighting for local jobs in the Mackay region," he said.
THE Liberal National Party has thrown a new hat in the ring for the Flynn election, or they've just made a boo-boo on a bulk mailed out letter pleading for votes.
It's likely to be the latter - an embarrassing mix-up four days out of the 2016 Federal Election.
This week Gladstone residents enrolled to vote in the seat of Flynn received this letter from Malcolm Turnbull.
At first glance it looks like a standard last minute vote plea.
But get to the last line and it says, "for that I need you to vote for your local Liberal National, George Christensen".
George Christensen is actually the coalition candidate for Dawson, which covers from Mackay to Townsville.
Underneath are two mugshots, one of the Prime Minister and another of our actual candidate and sitting member, Ken O'Dowd.
A Calliope resident, who did not want to be named, brought his letter in to The Observer office late yesterday afternoon.
He said it was an embarrassing mix up, considering Flynn has been named as a marginal seat.
Residents in Tannum Sands also received the letter yesterday.
"I am asking you to make a clear choice - to back a strong and stable Coalition majority that can press ahead with our economic plan," the letter says.
