Help us kick the kilos tomorrow and we'll shout you a coffee

DO YOU feel energised? Are you ready to kick some butt?

With one week down and 11 to go in the NewsMail's Kick the Kilos crusade, it's time to get serious about pounding our local pavements, parks, bike tracks and bitumen if we want to stay competitive on the leaderboard.

To increase the chances of leapfrogging our closest rivals, NewsMail editor Craig Warhurst is holding a group walkathon tomorrow morning.

Leaving from the Basin car park, Mr Warhurst is encouraging members of the community to join the NewsMail team from 7am as we walk to Mon Repos and back to kick the kilos.

If the benefits of exercise aren't enough to get you to roll out of bed tomorrow morning, then perhaps the promise of a caffeine hit on completion of the walk will.

Just pop on your sneakers, slap on some sunscreen and a hat and grab your phone so you can record the walk on the Strava app and build our numbers.

Still not convinced? Group exercise is a fun way to meet new people and exercising in the morning gets your day off to a good start and puts you in a positive frame of mind to deal with the day-to-day.

For Bundaberg to take home the title of fittest town, we need to rack up the biggest distance overall and per capita.

If you haven't already, download the Strava app from the App Store or Google Play on your smartphone.

Set up an account with your email address and a password. Now you're connected, here are three simple steps to join our Kick the Kilos group:

  • Click the three dots in the bottom right corner "more", select "clubs" and then search Kick the Kilos. Find the NewsMail's group and join.
  • When you're ready to log a workout, select the "record" button in the bottom centre of the toolbar. It will locate you on the GPS. Press it again when you start walking and again when you have finished. Tap the finish flag once you're done to save the workout.
  • Name your workout and hit save. This will ensure it shares to the Kick the Kilos group.

It's as easy as that, so let's show those other towns what we're made of.
