House of Canelli a hidden gem
TUCKED away in the small village of Tyalgum is a hidden gem of Australian fashion.
Designer Byron McGilvray’s quirky store, House of Canelli, which is also the name of his label, offers a unique collection of the latest street and designer clothing as well as vintage pieces.
“House of Canelli was a natural development,” Mr McGilvray said.
“I was managing the retail clothing and gift shop next door, while using the space where the shop is now as a design workroom.
“I have been working as a freelance designer for six years. Even though it’s out in the country where there isn’t a large amount of foot traffic, it’s a creative work environment, which I believe is essential, and I find it inspiring.”
The name Canelli was derived from Fulcanelli, a philosopher and alchemist from the 1600s who studied architectural structures.
