Hot labels, hot bods hit catwalk

A BIG, white tent erected on a patch of grass by the river hardly sounds glamorous, but throw in scores of leggy models, fashion designers and a full orchestra of champagne flutes and the whole notion takes on a new sparkle.

The Brisbane Fashion Festival kicked off at the weekend, drawing a cacophony of hot labels and beautiful people to its deceptively sophisticated marquee on the Cultural Forecourt, South Bank.

Running until August 13, the festival encompasses a series of nightly group shows, free day parades and lectures and is perfectly timed to coincide with the Gallery of Modern Art's landmark Valentino Retrospective: Past, Present, Future.

Already off to a flying start, the festival enters its third day today with collections from a number of fresh designers and retailers set to power down the runway.
