Hostel replaces rag

THE disrepair of an Australian flag flying outside Cellblock Backpacker has caused a stir on Remembrance Day.

One email received by the NewsMail referred to the tattered flag as a “rag”.

The hotel’s owner, John Balchin, said he was in the process of applying for a new flag through Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey’s office.

He said he had only found out last week this was possible.

The current flag has been flying for about 12 months.
