Home explosion accused in court

THE case of a man accused of blowing up his house after dousing his wife in petrol and threatening to kill her has been handed up to the District Court.

The 42-year-old man and his wife, 48, spent weeks in intensive care following the blast that tore apart their home in June.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday charged with intending to cause grievous bodily harm to his wife.

During the committal hand-up, police prosecutor Senior Constable Hayley Glover tendered almost 40 exhibits to the court.

They included a recorded 000 call from the night of the alleged incident, a report from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and pictures of the destroyed home.

The prosecutor also tendered several statements from witnesses including police officers.

The man applied for bail on August 26 last year, which was denied.
