Drink driving tourist faces court

A TOURIST caught drink-driving has faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court.

Nepali national Surandra Chaudhari, 27, who is holidaying in Bundaberg, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens said police pulled over Chaudhari about 2.35am on August 21.

“He showed very little signs of being intoxicated,” Sgt Stevens said.

He told police he had drunk two bottles of beer at the Central Hotel and stopped about 7pm.

When breath tested, he blew .096.

Defence lawyer Thomas Bray said his client was still a relatively young man who had no criminal or traffic history in Australia.

“It would appear he's been very co-operative and had a relatively low level of intoxication,” he said.

“He has pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”

Magistrate Jennifer Batts fined Chaudhari $540 and disqualified him from driving for three months.

“Make sure you do not drive again unless licensed to do so,” Ms Batts told him.
