High-flying lecturer takes title

AVIATION Technology senior lecturer Ron Bishop is on a high after being named CQUniversity Lecturer of the Year.

Mr Bishop said he was particularly pleased because the title was bestowed upon him through a vote by the students.

“Normally these sorts of things are decided by senior people sitting at a desk,” he said.

“But this was decided by the students, so I must be doing something right.”

Mr Bishop said the vote did not stem from just his interactions with students at the Bundaberg campus.

“This affects people Australia-wide, because I teach Australia-wide online,” he said.

Mr Bishop said one of the reasons he won the title may have been his good relations with his students.

“I get pretty engaged with them,” he said.

Mr Bishop said he also tried to give graduates a boost to get started in their careers.

“I’ve got four people jobs here in Bundaberg,” he said.

“I give them referrals, let them know where the jobs are and try to tell the employers about them.”
