Headquarters promises to be cut above the rest

IT'S been Sarah Van Dalen's dream since she was young to open a hair salon - and last week she made it come true with the opening of Headquarters on Targo St.

The owner of Static clothing on Targo St has branched out, taking on the shop next door and renovating it herself, turning it into a space that's both trendy and inviting.

"I wanted it to be something funky, something cool for the younger generation, where you can come and do really amazing stuff with your hair - the fades, the tracks, all the cool colours," Ms Van Dalen said.

"I just wanted something different for Bundaberg - and I think I've achieved that."

Headquarters runs a rent-a-chair model, meaning any hairdresser can be a part of it. The first to join is Cherie MacKenzie, of Hair By Cherie, who said business was already going well.

"I'll have a manager in the salon, but hairdressers can come in and run their own business out of Headquarters," Ms Van Dalen said. "I've got a few more people interested - it's all coming together."

On the first day, there were numerous walk-ins as curiosity got people inside.

The NewsMail's impromptu model Denis Kovacs decided, once in the chair, he needed a haircut after all.

The salon caters for both men and women.

As well as haircuts, t-shirts by Cutthroat Supply Co and On The Rocks Apparel are for sale and Headquarters is the only supplier in Bundaberg of the popular Uppercut hair wax.
