Head-on collision on Bruce Highway

TWO people were taken to hospital after a head-on collision on the Bruce Highway, at Wallaville, early this morning.

Bundaberg police Sergeant Mike McLellan said crews arrived to find the Kenworth prime mover had rolled over and an extensively damaged Holden Commodore, driven by a 26-year-old man.

"The truck was carrying concrete pipes heading north," he said.

"As the truck approached the bridge over the Burnett River, the Holden Commodore has driven from a side street into the path of the semi trailer."

Sgt McLellan said the 39-year-old truck driver immediately braked to try and avoid the crash, but he did not have enough time to stop.

"Both drivers were taken to Bundaberg Hospital with minor injuries," he said.

Sgt McLellan said investigations into the crash were continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 4153 9111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
