Hawks flying after second win of round
Illawarra made light of the absence of injured key import Kevin Lisch to grab the honours with a round two double over defending champion New Zealand and Sydney.
Coach Rob Beveridge made some tactical adjustments after the Hawks dropped both opening-round games and lost Lisch.
They pasted the Breakers 96-75 on Wednesday with a 23-point, 10-rebound contribution from centre Andrew Ogilvy, who then added 15 points and nine rebounds in the 100-86 win over the Kings in Sydney.
Hawks guard Oscar Forman was the MVP in that clash with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.
New Zealand, which will welcome back star guard Corey Webster after his failed NBA bid, is now last on the table (1-3) after dropping both road games in round two, the first to the Hawks and the second in a great battle against Perth, which got home 83-80.
The Wildcats, who had four of their five starters in double figures, won the game with a 27-18 third quarter after coach Trevor Gleeson blasted his players at half-time for "not losing any skin off their knees" against a more desperate Breakers.
Melbourne, which beat Adelaide 84-75 to sit on top of the NBL ladder with a perfect 3-0 start to the season, and Perth (2-0) are the only unbeaten sides after two rounds.
