Handbrake failure leads to crash

A RUNAWAY car caused havoc on the main street of Bundaberg yesterday, after it rolled from a parking bay into another car.

The car rolled from a centre car park into Bourbong Street, smashing into another parked car on the other side of the road, just after 9am.

Because the owner was not present and the car was blocking traffic, police had to call a tow truck to remove it.

“It was up against another car, so it needed to be moved quickly,” Bundaberg Police Sergeant Steve Schultz said.

He said it was the third time in about five weeks that police had been called out to a runaway vehicle.

“People seem to be forgetting to put their handbrakes on, or leaving their cars in neutral,” Sgt Schultz said.
