Half-day yoga and meditation retreat on Fraser Island

WITH its rich logging history and World Heritage-listing, it somehow seems fitting that tree pose will be one of the top five yoga exercises to be rolled out on Fraser Island during an upcoming meditation and yoga half-day retreat.

Spiritual director of  Hervey Bay's not-for-profit Khachodling Dakini Sanctuary Khandro Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist meditation master.

She will be sharing her wisdom during a spiritual meditation and yoga session at Kingfisher Bay Resort on Saturday, February 15.

Designed to relieve the stresses of the modern world, the half-day session at Kingfisher Bay will call on Khandro Rinpoche's extensive spiritual knowledge and use yoga chi gung techniques drawn from classical yoga, pilates, Alexander technique, reiki, Japanese do-in, kundalini yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Feldenkrais method exercises.

According to The Holistic Hub's Jessica Wemmerslager, herself a student of Khandro Rinpoche and a yoga teacher in her own right, Hervey Bay was lucky to have secured the services of such an accomplished meditation practitioner.

"Khandro Rinpoche runs humanitarian projects as well as retreats and meditation sessions all over the world and has worked for high profile hotel chains such as the five-star Aman resort chain as their Spiritual Advisor," she said.

"Ms Rinpoche developed an affinity for Fraser Island on her last visit to the Fraser Coast and found it to be a very spiritual place - so she was very keen to bring her students to meditate.

People looking to experience peace and calm through meditation and yoga should book this session.

"Our body-friendly exercises are suitable for all levels of fitness and ability and will help develop strength, flexibility and balance."

Ms Wemmerslager said students would be better able to connect their body and mind and better connect to the outside world after participating in the meditative process with Khandro Rinpoche.

The half-day resort session includes a private charter with Freedom Whale Watch, a one-and-a-half-hour yoga session followed by a 30 minute break.

Khandro Rinpoche will finish the retreat with a meditation session.

Guests will then have the chance to experience the resort amenities until the charter boat departs at 3pm.

Tickets are $100 for day guests from Hervey Bay and $80 for resort guests but lunch is not included.
