Bundy gymnasts set to take on best

EXCITEMENT  is building as Bundaberg’s finest young gymnasts prepare to compete against the nation’s best at the annual Gymnastics Queensland Championships at Maroochydore this weekend.

The four-day event will feature 730 gymnasts from 45 local and interstate clubs.

Coral Isles PCYC gymnastics co-ordinator Janelle Duff will take five gymnasts to the event with gold in their sights.

“They’ve been training extremely hard so they will go into the event as prepared as they can be,” she said.

Charlotte Kurtz, Tailah O’Shea, Bree Moodie, Mikaela Boycon and Bec Duff have all earnt a place in the prestigious competition.

Duff said of the five some would need to pull off career-best performances to be a shot at a placing.

“They’re up against the very best so competition is going to be stiff,” she said.

This year’s event will feature competitors between eight and 25 years of age from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and the ACT.

Commentary will be provided by 2008 Olympian Sam Simpson.
