Grunge legend Chris Cornell dead at 52

GRUNGE pioneer Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, has died at 52.

International media is reporting Cornell's death on Wednesday night was "sudden and unexpected".

A representative for the singer said his wife and family were shocked by the death.

The family has asked for privacy, saying the cause would be determined by the medical examiner.

Cornell was a Grammy award-winning, Golden Globe nominated singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer and lyricist.

He was perhaps best known for for Soundgarden's track Black Hole Sun, released in 1994.
