Greens announce new candidates

A SUNSHINE Coast resident has been named the new Greens Party candidate for the seat of Hinkler.

Seed business owner and musician Jenny Fitzgibbon was announced new candidate yesterday.

The change was needed after former candidate Adrian Wone announced on Monday he was quitting the party and would run as an independent.

Ms Fitzgibbon is an industrial design engineer and has worked for Oxfam.

The NewsMail attempted to call Ms Fitzgibbon yesterday but her mobile phone was switched off or not in a service area.

The seat of Flynn also has a new Greens candidate, with Gin Gin mother of two Anne Goddard throwing her hat into the ring.

Miss Goddard said public transport would be a major focus for her in the election.

“I'll work hard to secure funding to ensure that public transport infrastructure is dramatically improved,” she said.

“Providing safe and affordable public transport systems brings communities together, lessens the need for private car ownership and reduces individual and community costs.”

Miss Goddard is establishing an organic farm, and reforesting and co-ordinating the building of a local Indigenous Cultural Centre on 41 acres of remnant bushland.
