Chess master guides pupils

BUNDABERG Christian College chess students are set to lift their game with the help of Czech Republic grand master Honza Priborsky.

Mr Priborsky started a three-day training workshop with the students yesterday to help them gain extra skills before the school team ventures to the state finals this month.

Year 12 student David Nelson said it was a good opportunity to develop his skills from an international champion.

“I’m hoping he will be able to give me some good tips,” the 18-year-old said.

“It will be good to see how he thinks and looks at the board.”

Bundaberg Christian College chess co-ordinator Colin Spotswood said he had also been looking forward to the visit.

“There’s a little bit of a kid coming out in me,” Mr Spotswood said.
