Go pink for Alana

IT IS every little girl's favourite colour and, just by donating a $5 note, you could help pink princess Alana Reid get the gift of hearing.

Alana, 3, was born with the congenital condition microtia, which means small or absent ear, and she requires surgery to widen her ear canals so she may be able to hear without the use of aids.

But the surgery can only be performed in the US, and the Reid family is desperately trying to raise the whopping sum of $97,000 to get their daughter the surgery before she starts Prep.

Bundaberg businesses are being asked to hold a Give $5 for Alana Day on Friday, September 14 to help the Reid family reach their fundraising target.

Mum Emma said businesses could choose to hold a morning tea or a pink dress-up day, where each person could donate $5, to make the September event more fun for participants.

"Alana's favourite colour is pink - she won't wear any other colours," she said.

"So we thought it was fitting to have a pink day and include the pink $5 note to help raise funds."

Mrs Reid said schools across the region were invited to hold a gold coin fundraiser on the same day.

The school that raises the most money will win a $1000 Scholastic book pack.
