Give croquet a go at club's open day
SUNNYSIDE Croquet Club is hoping more members can join their club on Australia Day.
Tomorrow it will be hosting its annual come and try day, when new players can get involved in the game.
Sunnyside promotions officer Robyn Poulsen said they hope the success of the day continues.
"In the last few years we've been able to get new players to play,” Poulsen said.
"Last year we got four new members that are still playing, which is a bonus,” she said.
In this year's come and try day the emphasise will be on fun for all who are involved.
"We'll be introducing people that come to the basics of croquet first,” Poulsen said
"Then we'll have a few fun games and divide everyone all up to play a golf croquet game.
"The day will finish with a sausage sizzle.”
Poulsen said membership was cheap compared to other sports.
"We give people six free lessons, so they can come along for three weeks or six weeks, with one or two lessons a week.”
"You then pay $106 to register before paying $25 a month.
"You can play croquet Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for four weeks, so that's pretty good value.”
It is also a sport which doesn't require much energy or back-breaking movement.
It is also a quick sport with games going for an hour in golf croquet.
A welcome is extended to all players, regardless of age, everyone can come and give it a go.

The day starts at 3pm.
