Girls exemplify Aussie spirit

TWO local girls took advantage of recent Australia Day celebrations to raise money for Haiti victims.

Thirteen-year-old Jessy McKinnon and Mikayla Marschke made their own supportive shirts to collect money for the victims of the earthquake.

The girls raised $116 from Yandaran Hotel patrons who donated winnings from Australia Day events such as toad racing.

The girls will send the proceeds to World Vision.

Jessy and Mikayla’s parents said they were very proud of the girls’ efforts and the Australian spirit they showed by thinking about others less fortunate and doing something about it.
