RUGBY LEAGUE: Bribie Island's Matt Gillett will play his 10th State of Origin match for Queensland next week.

The 26-year-old, who has also played for Australia, is seen as a key player for the Maroons, who are looking to bounce back from last year's series defeat.

He's a Brisbane Broncos star but Matt hasn't forgotten his roots and remembers what it was like playing junior footy on the Sunshine Coast.

He had some advice for some of the current crop of youngsters who are playing rugby league in the region.

"Give it your best every game because you never know who is watching," he said.
