Gary Ablett's 300th on hold after failing fitness test

AFL: Gold Coast's Gary Ablett will have to wait at least one more week to play his 300th game after the superstar was ruled out of this weekend's game with a calf strain.

The veteran was due to take on St Kilda at Etihad Stadium in his milestone match on Sunday, but the calf complaint he sustained against Carlton last week in round 13 has not healed.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist failed a fitness test yesterday.

"Really disappointing for Gary, his family and the footy club - waiting for his much anticipated 300th game," goldcoastfc.com.au said.

Suns head of football Marcus Ashcroft told the club's website Ablett (pictured) had been working on his injury all week.

"Today trying to complete some rehab runs, unfortunately [he] didn't get through those at all," Ashcroft said.

It is unclear whether Ablett will be fit to play against North Melbourne in round 15.

Gold Coast's midfield is already weakened with Michael Barlow out with a broken leg.

Ablett is averaging 32 disposals per game this year amid speculation he may request a trade to Geelong at season's end.

Meanwhile, forward Callum Ah Chee, who will play his first game in seven weeks after overcoming a back injury, said he could inject the pressure around the ball that was lacking in the Suns' loss to Carlton last week.

"I'll be bringing a lot of pressure to the forward line and helping the boys keep it in there so we can get the best opportunity to score," Ah Chee said.
