Further injury woes for young Lions star Claye Beams
YOUNG Brisbane Lions midfielder Claye Beams (pictured) will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after fracturing his left foot in Saturday's practice match against Sydney at Burpengary.
Beams, the younger brother of Collingwood star Dayne Beams, was playing just his second game back after a full knee reconstruction early in the 2013 season.
The 22-year-old, who has played 15 games since being chosen by the Lions in the 2009 rookie draft, was scheduled for surgery last night.
Meanwhile, Adelaide's horror pre-season run of injuries has claimed another victim, with midfielder Richard Douglas yesterday ruled out for up to six weeks following surgery to stop bleeding in his groin.
Douglas sustained the injury in Saturday's trial against GWS in Sydney.
The immediate playing future of teammates Tom Lynch (shoulder) and Andy Otten (knee) was unclear, although the club said surgery was unlikely.
