Flood relief for the greyhounds

RACING: Bundaberg Greyhound Racing Club has been allocated an extra race meeting this month by Racing Queensland Limited (RQL) in response to the industry in Rockhampton being severely impacted by the floods.

The club will now race on Saturday, January 29, meaning that they have meetings for the final three weeks of the month.

RQL will also endeavour to cater for increased demand at Bundaberg meetings and will conduct additional races to reduce the impact on greyhound participants.

Additionally, a $25 per greyhound subsidy is available during the closure of Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park track to those trainers from the Rockhampton and Mackay areas who travel to Bundaberg, Townsville and South-East Queensland meetings.

RQL also released an industry relief package yesterday to assist racing industry stakeholders devastated by recent catastrophic floods.

Much of Queensland’s regional racing community has been severely affected by the floods.

Two tiers of funding are available, including the $1 million Facility Remediation Fund for racing and training infrastructure in Rockhampton and at regional racing venues throughout Queensland.

Clubs have been advised to contact RQL to log any areas where major damage has been caused by the flooding.
