LNP MPs have been told not to expect funds for pork barrelling their electorates at the next election, with the focus to instead be on cost of living relief measures for the entire state - except in the case of the Premier's seat.

Following on from Queensland Police Union revelations that nervy backbenchers were considering running as independents at the next election, with president Ian Leavers accusing Treasurer Tim Nicholls of being the "Kevin Rudd of the LNP" and "undermining" Campbell Newman, LNP MPs have told Fairfax Media the party room had "stopped drinking the Kool-Aid".

The MPs, who asked not to be named to protect their re-election prospects, individually expressed concern about cracks which were forming within the government and its strategy for re-election.

"We've been told that cost of living is the most important factor ahead of the election and that we won't be pork barrelling individual projects, that instead it's measures the whole state will benefit from," one said.

"That's fine, but we also know Ashgrove is immune. And a lot of back benchers are p**sed off when they see how much has been done in Ashgrove - they knew it was a lot, but now that there is that $80 million figure on it and the Premier is happy to talk about it, well, people are not drinking the Kool-Aid any more.''
